The List: Best of 2011

December 28, 2011
I hope you all had a safe and happy holidays.  I decided to compose a list of my favourite beauty products of 2011, you know, to look back and then move forward =).  Without further ado, here's my list of the "Best of 2011".

High-end Foundation: CHANEL Vitalumière Aqua Ultra Light Skin Perfecting Makeup
This is one of the best find in 2011.  It serves me quite well during the Spring and Summer time.  It's quick and easy to use.  It's quite lightweight, while offering just enough coverage I need for everyday life.

Drugstore Foundation: Neutrogena Healthy Skin Liquid Makeup SPF 20
When I first used it I like it but it melted off my face fairly quickly throughout the day.  But I decided to try it again during the winter season and I love it.  It's still not the most long wearing foundation, but it gives a lovely dewy finish I need in such dry weather.

BB Cream: Skin79 The Oriental Gold BB Cream
This serves me well in the drier season, i.e. Winter time.  I find it works quite well controlling shine, it doesn't add extra shine, at the very least.  I also like how it matches my skin tone quite perfectly.  Most BB Creams give you a grey cast, but not this one, it suits girls with yellow undertone.  For reference, I am somewhere in between NC 20 to NC 25 in the Winter.

Undereye Concealer: Bobbi Brown Corrector in Light Peach
The key to use this product is to find your right shade.  I have tried it again and again, but I never got the correct shade until I bought Light Peach.  It's the perfect corrector I need to cover my dark circles.

Blemish/Spot Concealer: MAC Studio Finish Concealer SPF 30
It's an all time favourite because it does its job, enough said!

Powder Foundation/Setting Powder: mark. Powder Buff Natural Skin Foundation
I like that it's affordable and it works great to add a little bit more coverage that I need.

Face Primer: None... and the Search continues to 2012

Blusher: Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Exposed
It's not until mid-December that I started to reach for other blushes since I got it back in the summer.  It's the most perfect rosy flush.  Very easy to wear and it's pretty long wearing (it lasts till the end of my work day, which is good enough for me)

Bronzer: N.Y.C. Matte Bronzer Sunny
I gives me the glow that I need without making me orange or scary looking.

Eyeshadow Primer: Urban Decay Primer Potion in Sin
I like the original and Eden, but Sin is my most reached-for one this year.  I like the shimmer in it, it gives me a little pick me up!?

Eyeshadow Palette: Urban Decay Naked Palette
After one year, I still reach for this almost every time I wear eyeshadows.  It's the best-est =P.

Single Eyeshadow: CHANEL Ombre Essentielle Soft Touch Eyeshadow Beige LaméIt has quickly become my go to eyeshadow.  No matter what look I wanna go for (except smoky eyes, of course)

Gel/Liquid Liner: Tarte emphasEYES Amazonian Clay Waterproof Liner
In my opinion, it works better than the MAC Blacktrack fluidline.  It's more gel like than other gel/cream liner I've used.  It's a softer black, so it's perfect for everyday use.
Pencil Liner: Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in Perversion
Possibly the blackest black liner

Eyebrow Pencil: ANNABELLE Eyebrow Pencil in Taupe
It's a great colour for Brunettes' (and ash Blondes') eyebrow.  Very natural looking and stay put all day!

False Lashes: Dolly Wink No.4 Feminine Style
I love corner lashes, they're easier to use in my opinion.  Also, this blends in quite well with my natural lashes, not that detectable but you can definitely see the difference and cheat the eyes of others... hehe (sorry that I have put the lashes back into the wrong package... oops)

Lip Balm/Butter: Korres Lip Butter in Jasmine
I still think the pot form is better, but I do enjoy the convenience of the tube form (Lip Butter Glaze).  It offers a little color and a little shine that is great for just everyday use.

Lipstick: MAC Mattene Lipstick in Eden Rouge
I've been enjoying bold lip colour this year.  For most days, though, I would just pounce this on my lips to get just a hint of colour.  It stains, so I guess it stays put quite well!?

Lipgloss: None... nothing wow me this year, I'm not a huge fan of glosses anyway

Makeup Remover: Origins Clean Energy Cleansing Oil
It's a thicker cleansing oil but it does its job well without leaving a film on my face.  I have used mind up so it's not shown.

Eye Makeup Remover: Neutrogena Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover
Removes the toughest stuff.  Just use a cotton pad, leave it on your eyes, give it some time, and they'll melt off.

Face Cleanser: Clarisonic
I find this cleanse my face quite thoroughly no matter what cleanser I use.  I need to meet a life changing cleanser soon.

Exfoliator: St. Ives Blemish & Blackhead Control Apricot Scrub
I don't really see the blemish and blackhead control part, but as far as cleaning my dead skin cell, it works pretty well.

Toner: Laneige Power Essential Skin Refiner Light
This preps my skin for moisturizer.  I especially like it in the morning!

Day Time Moisturizer: MARCELLE Hydra-C 24H Energizing Hydrating Gel
It's lightweight but it provides enough moisture that I need during the day :).  You can feel the difference once it's on the skin!

Night Time Moisturizer: Laneige Water Sleeping Pack_EX
It's my secret to no dry patches.

Eyecream: Vasanti Eye Wonder
It keeps my eye area moisturized without giving my hideous milia.

Base Coat: Zoya Anchor Base Coat
It preps the nails and makes colour adhering well, while preventing nails being stained.

Top Coat: None... Nothing I have tried really helps chipping.  At best, it adds shine, but that's about it.

Glitter Nail Polish: O.P.I. Teenage Dream

Non-glitter Nail Polish : Essie Topless & Barefoot
It's the perfect nude colour and easiest to wear colour.  This is my go-to nail colour when I don't know what to wear and want to wear something.

I-have-to-mention-it Nail Polish: Zoya Rica
I think the name of the nail polish explains a lot.  It's a plus that it is a gorgeous colour for summer!

Foundation Brush: bdelluim tools Precision Kabuki 957 & Sigma makeup Angled Top Kabuki F84
This is a tie, because I love both for foundation.  I love how the bdellium 957 help me apply foundation evenly.  The shape of the Sigma F84 makes it reaches the corner of my noes and undereye area.

Concealer Brush: Sigma makeup Precision Round P82 & Precision Angled P84
This is again a tie, or more like they go hand-in-hand.  I like to use P82 to apply concealer on blemishes and spot.  And I like to use P84 to apply undereye concealer.

Blush/Bronzer Brush: Sonia Kashuk Angled Contour Brush
It's the softest natural hair brush I own.  It has got the right amount of density for bronzer.  On my lazy days, I also use this brush for blush.  It still does a great job for applying the right amount of blusher.

Eyeshadow Brush: Royal & Langnickel Silk Green Line Eye Shadow GL-3
This works like natural hair eyeshadow brush, but it's made of synthetic hair.  I'm definitely going to buy some backup for this brush!

Brush Set: Royal & Langnickel Silk Green Line Brush Set

This is the winner for me because it's incredibly soft and it works surprisingly well.  It changes my view for synthetic brushes.  And it's pretty good value for the quality if you can get it at shows or during sale.

Skincare Gadget: Clarisonic
I cannot think of anything that can trump this.  It's a great cleansing tool and definitely worth the investment.  Try getting it while it's on sale (QVC had a sale in November on the Mia, so it's possible!) or if there's a coupon at Sephora.

This is quite an extensive list.  I hope it gives you an idea of what I've been enjoying in 2011.  I love reading/watching about their favourite products of 2011.  What's on your list?

  1. I find myself reaching for my Chanel vitalumiere more than I expected this year!!! :D  So money well spent :)  And I think I'm super late on the bandwagon... but lately, I sort of want to purchase the Naked Palette.... is it still available that Naked2 is out?

  2. I think so.  The original Naked Palette is permanent, so is Naked2.  So I don't really understand why they would make two very similar palette LOL.  Anyway, I really like the original one, I reach for it almost every time when I put eyeshadow on.  It's a pretty no brainer for me whenever I'm in a hurry.  But I would recommend to get it from the States, 'cause it's cheaper... like $10 cheaper and less tax too!

  3. ohhhh i love posts like these rica! keep it up <3

  4. Thanks Joyce! I will try my hardest! <3

  5. Would you mind sharing the foundation shades you use for your best of products?

  6. Of course! There's only one shade for Skin79 BB Cream. I use B20 in Chanel Vitalumiere, Buff in mark powder buff, and 40 Nude in Neutrogena Healthy Skin Liquid Makeup =).  I will put together a FAQ section in the near future for reference!

  7. If you are looking for a reputable contextual ad company, I suggest that you check out Chitika.
