Last month I had the chance to go to the Shu Uemura SS2014 Press Event to learn and explore about their upcoming collection, and to witness the magical makeup techniques of Shu Uemura's Global Creative Director—Kakuyasu Uchiide.
For this event, Uchiide-san created 4 beautiful runway looks inspired by their Mika for Shu collection (coming in April 2014) and demonstrated a look to demonstrate how to use their new Calligraph:ink eyeliner and the false lashes from their collaboration with Paperself.
This look is called Curiosity. Uchiide-san used the all new Shu Uemura Lightbulb foundation with the sponge that it comes with for the base. For the eye, he chose to use eyeshadow M vivid blue 665 and finish off with a pair of black velvet feather lashes. To get the lips and cheeks, he used Tint in Gelato CR01.
For this Melting Sweet Dream look, the Lightbulb foundation + sponge was used again. And he picked both of the Mika for Shu spiral eyeshadow duo in the collection (pink/orange & beige/brown) to get the sweet look eyes. A pair of Choco-lash from Chocolat-Donna Collection (Discontinued) was used to spice up the eyes. The whole combination makes the model's eyes look extra large. To finish off, Tint in Gelato PK02 were used for lips and cheeks.
The next look is called Singing Forest, which is quite fitting because not only did Uchiide-san used the eyeshadow M vivid green 565 on the bold brows, he also paired it with the Mini Khaki False Lashes on the model's eyes. As for the face, Lightbulb foundation + sponge was used as a base and Tint in Gelato AT01 was used on both lips and cheeks.
This is the most dramatic and I feel it represented the Mika for Shu collection the best. For this Forbidden Fruits look, Uchiide-san used the Lightbulb foundation + sponge for the face and Tint in Gelato AT01 to smudge under the model's eyes and on her lips to intensify the look. He also took the new Mika for shu spiral eyeshadow duo in pink/orange and blended the gold/orange into tint in gelato under the eye. To top it off, he added some bottom lashes to finish the look.
The final look is the simplest look out of all yet it's one of my favourite. To start off, he used the lightbulb foundation + sponge. This look features the new Calligraph:ink liquid eyeliner and the Love Forever paperlashes. In order not to take anything away from the lashes and the sharp and crisp eyeliner, the only colour product used was the Tint in Gelato AT01.
It's rare to get a glimpse on a makeup master's magical work. I mean, seriously, when Uchiide-san does a winged-liner, he does it from the end... Ummm... and that's mad skill! I also love how precise he is even while he works so fast. He is also a perfectionist to get the look looking perfect. Anyway, I think the story here is, I need that eyeliner and I want to start doing it from the end. I hope you got some inspiration for Spring from these looks!
Until next time,
