As much as I love the look of gel manicure, I have a beef with the system. 1) You need to cure it, even though it's fast, I don't particularly enjoy this extra step. 2) The removal is horrendous, because you need to soak your nails in acetone, not only that dries out your cuticle, it also takes really really long to do.
I'm sure many of you share this love-hate relationship with the gel manicure. So you might be glad that the new L'Oréal Paris Extraordinaire Gel Lacque 1-2-3 System does almost exactly the same thing with much less hassle. This system entails 3 steps: Primer, Plumper, and Magnifier.

The simple 3-steps is like what you would do for a regular manicure. Only you would use the entire system to achieve the shininess like a gel-manicure. The system does not have a strange odour or weird texture. The primer is liquidy like a nail treatment and it dries down quickly. The nail colours are all very smooth and pigmented. I would still go with 2 coats to achieve a more opaque colour and an even finish. It comes with a slighlty angular brush to help distribute the colours evenly and reaches the edges of cuticles. The top coat is a bit more "gel-like" in that it's thicker, so make sure to close the lid tightly just in case it gets gooey in the future.
L'Oréal Paris Extraordinaire Gel Lacque 1-2-3 Primer / Glaze Lacque (CA $15.99 / US $12.99) is sold together as a primer and top coat kit. There are currently 21 colours in the L'Oréal Paris Extraordinaire Gel Lacque Gel Colour (CA $8.99 / US $7.99). I have 5 colours here to show:

Overall, this system is a great alternative to gel manicure if you like the look of it. It didn't claim that it will have the wear of a gel polish, but it did last for about 5-7 days for it to start chipping, which is a bit better than regular nail polishes. I really like the shiny vinyl finish of the nail colours, it looks so sophisticated and put together. Currently, they have 21 colours and I hope they'll expand their range to more bright colours and glitter.
Until next time,
x Rica
