YSL Couture Palette Collector Fétiche | Review, Photos, Swatches & Demo | Fall 2014 Cuirs Fétiches Collection

September 3, 2014

Inspired by leather—the ultra classic material in fashion, Lloyd Simmonds, Creative Director Make-up YSL Beauté of Yves Saint Laurent, created the Cuirs Fétiches Collection for Fall 2014.  This collection features a variety of texture and finishes, from grained to burnished, from matte to glossy, to represent possibilities of leather.  It is apparent that leather is the theme of the collection, as shown on the packaging of the Fétiche Palette.

They call it "the fetish accessory for eyes" because this palette is inspired by the quintessential biker jacket. The Yves Saint Laurent Couture Palette Collector Fétiche (CA $64 / US $60) features 5 warm wearable shades which represents "every variety of leather, from gloriously raw to sublimely natural".  The eyeshadows in this palette generally have decent pigmentation with pretty good lasting power.  I love the Base (B) colour as well as the shade #1.  Along with the Highlight (H) shade, these 3 are soft and creamy, and they are easy to work with.  However, I find the shades #2 and #3 are a little harder in texture, which requires a little bit more work blend.  With #3, it is also harder to get the colour (I would recommend using a dense dome brush for this shade).

Each Couture Palette is strategically designed to let its user to create a few looks; this one is no exception and here are Lloyd's fetish suggestions:
  • CUIR YCONIQUE: The Bright Copper base (B) is applied over the upper lid, the Matte Black (#2) along the upper lashes and the Amazon Green (#3) along the lower lash line.
  •
  • CUIR PATINÉ: The upper lid is sculpted with the Bright Copper base (B) and Opulent Brown (#1), the arch of the brow bone of the eye is highlighted with Warm Gold (H), and Matte Black (#2) is drawn along the lower lash line.
  •
  • CUIR NUDE: The inside corner of the eye is illuminated with Warm Gold (H), and Bright Copper (B) is then drawn towards the outer corner.
I find myself gravitate towards the Cuir Patiné look most of the time, which I wore just the other day (see below. If I am looking for a less dramatic look, I'll opt not to line my lower lash line.

Eyes: Fétiche Palette (Cuir Patiné look with Amazon Green on lower lash line) + YSL Baby Doll Mascara | Brows: Too Faced Bulletproof Brows | Face: YSL Fusion Ink Foundation SPF 18 | Lips: YSL Gloss Volupté in 210 Beige Nu

I absolutely loved the colour combination in this palette.  It will take you from day to night, for any occasion. The shimmer in this palette is beautiful but doesn't create fall outs.  While 2 of the matte shades require a bit more effort to work with, the end results will still create that sexy rocker chic look that is perfect to pair with a biker jacket.  If you're looking for a luxury palette that takes you just a bit outside of your neutral comfort zone, you may wanna give this a go.

Until next time,

x Rica
