Giveaway: Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush Palette

October 3, 2014 • 116 comments

It's MAC Warehouse Sale time again!  Starting September 5th to 7th, invitees can go to Markham Fair Grounds and shop at warehouse price.  Products include MAC Cosmetics, Bobbi Brown, Esteé Lauder, Origins, Clinique, etc.  I have been there more than a couple of times and can usually find a good deal there.  I always make sure I visit the $4 bin and gift bags section, and of course, I will stock up on charity bags on my way out!

This sale is unfortunately not open to public, you will need an actual ticket with the valid seal to get in. A coworker of my boyfriend gave him a pair of tickets for September 7th, but I don't think I will be able to make it.  So why not give them away to my fellow beauty addicts on this blog!  If you live in GTA or have the means to get to Markham Fair Grounds on September 7, 2014, feel free to enter by following the Rafflecoptor widget below.  Open to Canadian residents only.

This giveaway is opened till August 31, 2014 11:59PM EST.  I will contact the winner as soon as I know, so I can mail them out on September 2, 2014 (since the 1st is Labour Day).  For detailed terms and condition, please take a look at the widget above.  Good luck everyone!

MAC Warehouse Sale Ticket Giveaway | September 2014

August 17, 2014 • 13 comments

I feel like I have been taking MAC Eyeshadows for granted.  They have been in my makeup routine for so many years that sometimes I just forget how great the colour payoff is, how nice their texture is, and how long wearing they are.  I still remember my first few MAC Eyeshadows, which most are still my all time favourite and I use them so often that I had gone through a few pans...
My go-to MAC shadows in a Z-Palette
Among those shadows, my staples and my top 3 MAC eyeshadows are Naked Lunch, Satin Taupe, and Blanc Type.

Naked Lunch is a shimmery light pink.  It is my go-to all over lid colour.  When I don't know what to wear, I'll just apply it all over my lid, put a warm brown on my crease (like Wedge) and smudge a little dark brown on my lash line (like Swiss Chocolate) and I'm good to go.

Satin Taupe is shimmery taupe with a satin finish.  It is also one of MAC's best selling shade because it is just so easy to work with.  It works great as a defining colour, as well as all over the lid if you want more drama.  (It also pairs well with Naked Lunch!)

Blanc Type is creamy matte light beige.  I'm saving the best for last.  You may think that it is boring cream colour, but to me, it is basically an eyeshadow eraser.  You can always count on Blanc Type to fix that crease colour brought too high and give you a clean edge of a classic cat eye.  I suggest using it with MAC 227 brush, best combo ever!

MAC Eyeshadows Swatches L to R: Blanc Type, Naked Lunch, Satin Taupe

Never tried any of these shades before?  Today might just be your lucky day!  Together with 30 fabulous beauty and fashion bloggers and vloggers, we're hosting a huge MAC giveaway.  The winner will get 30-pan MAC palette filled with our favourite MAC eyeshadows hand picked by all of us.  The shades in the prize are:
Sketch, Vibrant Grape, Fig 1, Club, Shroom, Orb, Omega, Aquadisiac, Copperplate, Woodwinked, All That Glitters, Amber Lights, Cranberry, Steamy, Naked Lunch, Blanc Type, Nylon, Cobalt, Brule, Haux, Carbon, Phloof, Retrospeck, Stars & Rockets, Expensive Pink, Brun, Electra, Satin Taupe, Honeylust & Brown Script
I have so many favourites out of these 30 shades and I am sure you will find your favourite(s) among them as well.  Check out below for giveaway details!

For Day 4's giveaway, we have here a few Benefit goodies, including CORALista Ultra Plush Lip Gloss, Stay Flawless 15-Hour Primer, and They're Real Mascara!

I chose their best selling They're Real mascara because it seems to have become a favourite of many (I have a few tubes as back up too).  The Stay Flawless primer is great for covering pores and extending the wear of your foundation (reviewed here).  And I just adore the Ultra Plush Lip Gloss formula as much as a non-gloss girl I am!

For the third giveaway of the season, here's the Giorgio Armani Eccentrico Face Palette:

To enter, follow the Rafflecopter widget below:
a Rafflecopter giveaway This Giorgio Armani Eccentrico Face Palette just got featured by yours truly a couple days ago.  If you love a pink glow, you would want to try this face palette.  It has pink, lavender, orange and white in it for you to mix and match.  You can add more lavender to get a purple hue, or add orange to make the blush look more coral.  It makes your cheeks more defined with just one product.  It's also quite long wearing that last the entire work day.  Love.  One thing though, you have to remove that gorgeous overspray to reveal its true colours, which was quite hard for me to do.

This giveaway is opened internationally until January 11, 2014 at 11:59PM. Good luck!

It's day 2 of the 12 Days of Holiday Giveaway!  Today, we brought to you the Urban Decay NAKED Basics Palette.

I use mine almost every time I wear eyeshadows.  Some more heavily dipped shades include Crave, Naked2 and Foxy.  Either you're a fan of the Urban Decay NAKED or NAKED2, or just jumped on the NAKED3 bandwagon, you could always get help from the NAKED Basics!  It is the perfect basic palette that everyone would need in their eyeshadow collection because you can use it in conjunction with other eyeshadows that you have, or if you're a minimalist, this palette could be all you would need.

If you would like to win it, follow the instructions in the Rafflecopter widget below!

12 Days of Giveaway for Holidays - Day 1: Win a P&G 12 Days of Beauty Gift Pack ($90+ in value) | Giveaway

Being an oily skin gal, I have always struggled to keep my makeup stay on.  Using my current foundation routine, it doesn't stand a chance, especially in this Summer heat (and humidity).  To everyone who's having the same problem, Benefit might have a solution for you with their new Stay Flawless 15-Hour Primer* (CA $38 / US $32).  This innovation claims to work like a magnet to help your makeup stay on longer.  So I put it to an ultimate test... on me :).

The formula of the primer is quite interesting.  It has a slight cooling effect when you first apply it.  It feels a little sticky at first but the feeling goes away after it's set.  I am very sensitive to "heaviness" of a product, and because it's sticky, it feels a little heavy at first.  But like the stickiness, it goes away after it sets.

I have never used a stick primer before, but it's pretty intuitive.  You just glide it on your face and blend it out with your finger and a brush.  I prefer using a synthetic brush, such as Sigma F82 or the Buffing Brush in Real Techniques Core Collection, because  I find that it makes a more even application.  A pro tip from Benefit is to quickly blend your liquid foundation on top of the primer before the primer sets to lock-in the foundation.

The result?  It does a pretty good job keeping my makeup on throughout the day.  It's quite strange because it doesn't seem to excel at controlling sebum excretion but it does keep the makeup on regardless.  I do have to blot throughout the day, which I do that anyway.  But the coverage seems to stay on better than when I'm not using the primer.  Because of my oily skin, I find that it works the best with powder foundation.

Overall, I feel that Benefit Stay Flawless does a great job at keeping you look flawless.  However, it is not the best in oil control (nothing is for me anyway :/).  It feels sticky at first but it is weightless once it's set.  Makeup still look relatively fresh after hours of application, but for me, blotting is still necessary throughout the day.  It works well with all types of foundation, but I prefer to use it with powder.  I will for sure be putting it into good use this Summer because it helps me stay flawless in the heat.

Benefit The Rich Is Back! Makeup Kit Cover Art
In celebration of Sephora's 15th Anniversity, Benefit Cosmetics teamed up with British Fashion Designer Matthew Williamson to create limited edition The Rich Is Back Makeup Kit* (CA $40 / US $34) that is exclusive to Sephora.  Being a master of colour and glamour, Matthew Williamson featured some of his "favourite iconic prints" with kaleidoscopic colours on the design of the palette.  I absolutely love the cover art, inside and out.  It is just so much fun and colourful.

Ok... maybe it's not grammatically correct in old English, but I think you get my point from the title.

Ever since Jill from jillojello and Joyce from Sparkly Playground reviewed the George's Cream, I have been wanting to try out this local brand.  I went to the Shoppers Drug Marts near my place and my office to find them, but no luck (or maybe I've been looking at the wrong section!?).  So when the lovely people from George's Cream asked me if I would like to try out their products, I know I have to say yes.

L to R: George's Special Dry Skin Cream, George's Light Special Moisturizing Lotion

First of all, let's talk about my skin.  I have pretty dry skin on my body (ironically, I have very oily skin on my face = =).  So I need complete moisture in order to feel comfortable throughout the day.  My boyfriend has really dry skin too, and he needs even more moisture than I do.  Both of us tried out the George's Special Dry Skin Cream and the George's Light Special Moisturizing Lotion.  We tested them out throughout the month of April and the first half of May, so I think I have a pretty good idea on how well they work.

George's Special Dry Skin Cream

Ingredients: Deionised Water, White Petrolatum, Cetyl Alcohol, Polysorbate-20, Polysorbate-80, Sodium Lauryl Sulphate, Phenoxy Ethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Sorbic Acid.

This intense moisturizer is meant for combatting severe dry skin.  It looks like a white paste when you first squeeze it out.  It actually put me off a little bit when I saw the paste because it's not really how I pictured it to be.  It seems like it's more whipped than other body creams that I have tried.
