If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter (both @eeenricaaa, so is Snapchat), you may notice that I’m currently in New York.  I’m visiting a friend here and it’s quite exciting to be back in one of my favourite city.  I’m really looking forward to explore NYC and, well, EAT!

I’m not the type of person that travel light when it comes to my makeup.  This time, though, I really tried to condense it and only bring stuff I would actually use on this trip.  If there’s anything I need though, there will be a Sephora nearby XD.  So let’s take a peek into my travel makeup bag before I pack it.

Just as I spring cleaned my apartment, in particular, my beauty collection, I got this email from Sephora basically saying

Hey Rica, we got a 15% discount for you! I know you want more beauty products...

I couldn't passed on this promo, so naturally, I made a trip to Sephora the day the sale started for VIB Rouges (shamefully, I'm still a Rouge) and browse through Sephora.ca.  After a week, I have finally gotten everything.  From old favourites to new purchases, here's my, again, not-so-small haul...

Giveaway: Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush Palette

hourglass-ambient-lighting-blush-palette

Every year, there's at least one beauty releases that would capture my heart.  And I fell fast and hard for the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush Palette (CA $67 / US $58).

One of the perks of being a beauty junkie who shops at Sephora way too much is the VIB Rouge status.  Ya, thanks to that (I guess thanks to me!?), I was able to snag the much anticipated blush palette early.  And now it's available for everyone to purchase!  HUZZAH!

Oh man, I have been lusting after this palette for months ever since a sneak peek picture popped up on the Internet.  It's lovely that they included 2 permanent shades from the original Ambient Lighting Blush range, Luminous Flush and Mood Exposure, because the original shades are highly praised.  That's not to say I don't like the limited edition shade Incandescent Electra because I do, so very much.
  • Luminous Flush is described a champagne rose but it looks more to me like a warm pink with a luminous sheen.
  • Incandescent Electra is a peachy pink colour with shimmery finish.
  • Mood Exposure is a rosy plum with soft sheen.

Sometimes you gotta keep things interesting, especially with makeup.  So I have been changing things with my routine to make sure my products get some love.  Okay, maybe I gave out too much love because the list is quite long this month.

I think you already know about my oily skin complex and what I would do to try to stop the shine on my forehead.  That's right, I'm still loving Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer Broad Spectrum SPF 15 (CA $60 / US $52) and Laura Mercier Smooth Finish Flawless Fluide (CA $59 / US $48).  You can read about my favourite primers here and my favourite foundations here.

For my vampire dark circles, seriously it's bad, I turn to Marc Jacobs Remedy Concealer Pen in Wake Up Call (CA $47 / US $39) to cover them up.  This concealer is light and liquid-y in texture but it stays in place.  My lazy self has turned to the BeautyBlender (CA $26 / US $19.95) to apply foundation and concealer, because it's the fastest and easiest way to do so.

To set, the Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition Loose Finishing Powder (CA $40 / US $34) has been so great for prolonging the wear of my base makeup.  It's super smooth and it won't look too powdery.

It has come and gone, but it's back again!  That's right.  The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush Palette (CA $67 / US $58) is back in stock once again on Sephora.  This time it's available to everyone!  So hurry, get yourself one if you have been wanting one, before it goes out of stock again!

I have been playing with mine for a week now.  Click to continue for some sneak peek before the review :)

Hurry VIB Rouge's!  Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush Palette is now available on Sephora.com and Sephora.ca!

We have spent so much money at Sephora just for this day!  I wanna say just kidding but I actually have been waiting quite a while for the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush Palette (CA $67 / US $58).  And I'm so glad I'm a VIB Rouge.

Last year, everyone was crazy about the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette (CA $67 / US $58), and it flew off the shelf too quickly that they had to bring it back as a permanent item.  This year, with the release of the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush (CA $41 / US $35), where shades are also out of stock for months, they are bringing the palette version for the holiday season!

So act now, fellow beauty enthusiasts who happen to shop at Sephora, a lot :P

Happy Shopping!

Who (what) is your biggest makeup nemesis?

For me, it is my own oily skin.  I don't know how many times I end up look like a grease ball by 5PM.  Even when most things work on others, I seem to always be out of luck.

So I have taken the "Mission Makeup Stay Put" very seriously.  I tried and tested many different kinds of makeup primer out there that cater to oily skin.  I finally found 3 that I would call my faves and keep going back to it...

Becca Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector (CA $44 / US $36)

It's been over a year now since I last raved about this product but this is seriously DA BOMB in oily control.  The silicone primer texture dries down super duper quickly.

The application takes a bit of time to get used to: Dispense a small amount on your fingers, warm between your hands, and pat it onto your skin.  Like I said, since it dries down quickly, I would apply area by area, starting form my t-zone.

I definitely won't squeeze a lot out and then apply to my whole face in one go.  I tried it, it looks flakey, never again.  It is really matte though, so if you have combination oily skin, you may want to stick with T zone only; and skip entirely if you have normal/normal-to-dry skin.

The Holidays are almost here.  Everywhere you go, you see holiday decorations, Christmas trees, and fairy lights!  The most wonderful time of the year calls for the glowy and beautiful skin.  But not many of us are blessed with it, so let's fake it.  Here are a few that would do the trick

Inspired by Marc Jacobs's own Fall 2013 runway looks, the Marc Jacobs Lightshow Luminizing Powder in 302 Close Up (CA $71 / US $59) has superb design of tartan embossment with a gold shimmer overspray on top.  They even added "shadows" to create more definition to the tartan.

It's finally here!  The annual Sephora VIB sale.  To most of our surprise, the sale discount has gotten bigger and better.  This year, Sephora is giving their Very Important Beauty Insiders (VIBs) a 20% off discount on EVERYTHING (from Nov 7 to 11)!  Yay!  A VIB is a Beauty Insider (BI) who spend more than $350 in a calendar year.  You can shop in store or online if you are a VIB.  Also, VIBs are provided with a link to give out to one of their friends who doesn't already have the discount; the VIB friend can use enjoy a one-time discount as well.  In the past, the BI sale starts a week later than the VIB sale, so even if you're not a VIB, don't worry, you may get an email soon!

Every year around this time of year, Sephora will have a Friends & Family Event followed by a Beauty Insider Sale.  In fact, the F&F sale has already begun on October 17, 2013 and it's running till the 30th.

If you're one of the luckier ones who have friends or family working at Sephora, you might want to take advantage of the 20% off discount to stock up some of your essential products.  (To get the F&F discount you actually need to know someone who work there and provide you with a code, so ask around to see if someone you know has it.)

If you don't know anyone, fear not, the Beauty Insider should be coming up soon if they follow what they did before.  Last year it was a 15% off discount, which is great considering things that are sold at Sephora rarely go on sale.

I usually stock up on skincare products that I used before and liked, get some beauty products that I've eyeing on, and buy some holiday gifts in advance because a lot of them have already come out!  Here's some idea to get you started...

Attention all Sephora Beauty Insiders, Chic Week is happening right now!  This means all Beauty Insiders (BIs) and Very Important BIs (VIBs) will get 15% off their entire purchase from now till April 22, 2013.  I, of course, went on the first day and bought a few things that I have wanted to try!

My Chic Week haul in the Chic tote :P

This time I went a bit complexion-crazy and focused on skincare and face makeup!  First up, skincare:

From L to R: 500 points perk - Ole Henriksen trans4mation skincare sample set,
REN Invisible Pores Detox Mask, REN Get Radiant, Glowing Skin in Just 10 Minutes! Kit
I have wanted to try REN Skincare for a little while because I have read/heard so many British bloggers/vloggers talked about their Glycol Lactic Radiance Renewal Mask.  I originally did buy the mask on the first day of the sale but then I saw the Get Radiant, Glowing Skin in Just 10 Minutes! Kit on Sephora website for just $4 more, so I decided to go back and exchange for the kit instead because it's just a better value.  I also decided to try their Invisible Pores Detox Mask.  These skincare products are pretty expensive, so they better work!  Haha.

I also went ahead and redeemed my points for the Ole Henriksen trans4mation skincare sample set. I have tried the same kit (minus the eye gel) a couple years back, I quite enjoyed it and I want to see if I still like it :).
